Hola

Israel Avila, also known as "El Cínico," is a Denver-based comedian originally from Juarez, Mexico, who has made a name for himself in the Colorado comedy scene by blending sharp humor with poignant social commentary. His comedy explores the immigrant experience, from learning the language and adapting to American culture to navigating the complexities of being part of the LGBTQ+ community. Avila’s performances are often bilingual, contributing to Denver's growing local Spanish-language comedy scene, and he frequently participates in shows like the Vatos Locos Comedy Festival, which highlights the voices of Latino comedians across the U.S.

His comedic style, described as “spicy,” uses humor to unpack the challenges of being an immigrant and bisexual, with personal stories about how his family has responded to his identity. Avila’s sets are reflective of his own journey, tackling issues such as cultural integration, language barriers, and queer identity in a way that is both humorous and deeply relatable.

In Denver, he has performed at a variety of venues, helping to amplify the representation of Latinx and LGBTQ+ voices in comedy, and he is committed to creating spaces where these stories can be shared authentically. He co-produces the only Spanish comedy showcase in Colorado called "Me Meo!" with comedian Rebeca Trejo, seen on Netflix is a Joke.
